UMFK professor releases latest composition

FORT KENT, Maine — University of Maine at Fort Kent Professor of Music and Education, Dr. Scott Brickman, will have another composition of his available on a commercial recording.

“Scherzo ala Polonaise” (2017) for two flutes, which premiered Dec.19, 2017, in Athens, Greece, by Iwona Glinka and Renata Guzik, was released Sept. 21. The CD, titled “Two Minutes,” is on the Phasma label and distributed in the European Union by Naxos recordings. Glinka’s recording is available on other media outlets.

“I’m really fortunate to have built such a supportive relationship with these fantastic musicians,” said Brickman. “They are fearless with their ambitious advocacy of new music. It is very exciting for me to have further collaborations with these musicians in the works.”

Brickman holds music degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Brandeis University. He has taught at UMFK since the fall of 1997, and teaches courses in music, first year experience and education.

This past April in Valetta, Malta, Brickman’s 2018 composition “Fraski” for clarinet, violin, viola and cello premiered as part of the Hearing Orpheus Today concert series.
