Martha Beaulieu Beaupre

MADAWASKA, Maine – After a healthy and blessed life, Martha Beaulieu Beaupre, 98, passed away peacefully September 27, 2018, at a Madawaska Health care facility. She was born October 27, 1919, in St. David, one of 18 children of the late Eugene and Mattie (Chasse) Beaulieu.
Martha tenderly referred to her husband, Omer “Bernie” Beaupre, as “My Honey” and was married to him for 46 years until he died in 1990. Returning to the area in 1947, together with Bernie’s brother, they built Vet’s Diner in Grand Isle, which was a booming place in its time. They owned and operated the diner until their retirement in 1988.
A kind-hearted woman, throughout her lifetime, Martha greeted everyone she met with a beautiful, warm smile and a “How are you dear?” A fixture in town, Martha is fondly known to most as Ma Tante Martha, up until a couple years ago, she could be seen nearly every day walking to St. Thomas Aquinas Church or the Senior Citizen’s Center, no matter what the weather was and always dressed to impress.
Her daily outfits were coordinated from head to toe with matching accessories, the accompanying purse and one of her beloved pairs of high heels. She started wearing high heels at the age of 16, and for the last 82 years, high heels have been part of her signature look. Martha enjoyed listening to music and loved to go out dancing with her Honey and friends. Dancing kept her young, and she looked vibrant dressed to the nine and moving to the beat out on the dance floor. She also had fun exercising, playing cards, gathering with family for meals together, and socializing with old and new friends alike.
She was proud and quick to point out that she was left-handed when she spotted another “Leftie.” She will be dearly missed by many for her warm presence, grateful heart, kind spirit, loving demeanor, infectious smile, and her joie de vie.
Martha is survived by three sisters, Blanche Albert of Madawaska, Jeanine Soucy and Therese Gallant of Connecticut; four Godchildren, Omer Pelletier and his wife, Muriel, and Raymond Beaulieu and his wife, Ida, of Madawaska, Martha (Beaulieu) Guisti of Westford Massachusetts and Guy Chasse of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews and all who affectionately called her Ma Tante Martha. She was predeceased by her Honey, Bernie Beaupre, and 14 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home, Madawaska from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 1. There will be no visiting hours on Tuesday before the service. Interment will be held immediately following the service at the St. Gerard Cemetery in Grand Isle. Those wishing to remember Martha in a special way may contribute in her memory to Edgar J.
