Footrace, poker run to raise funds for humanitarian relief
FORT KENT, Maine — An autumn afternoon spent enjoying the walking trails of Fort Kent also will serve to provide humanitarian relief on Saturday, Oct. 20, when the Fort Kent Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee sponsors the Fort Kent Fish River Greenway 5 Mile Footrace and Poker Run.
Proceeds will benefit UMFK Partners for International Relief, a student group that serves medical missions to underprivileged countries.
Participants in the fundraiser can expect to traverse a level course of smooth trails and roads throughout downtown Fort Kent, according to organizers.
There will be awards for the top five male and female runners who participate in the 5 Mile Footrace with $25 presented to the male and female who finish first overall. The prize for the best hand in the Poker Run is $50.
Both events will begin and end at the Riverside Park Pavilion with registration at noon and the events to begin at 1 p.m.. The cost to enter is $10 per person for either event and $20 per family.
Following the Footrace and Poker Run, organizers will treat participants and volunteers to a hot dog roast at Riverside Park.
