Edmundston to host next Senior Games

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — The City of Edmundston will host the 7th annual Jeux de l’Acadie 50+ (Summer Games For Seniors) in August 2020.

The announcement was made this weekend at the end of the 6th Games, held in Prince Edward Island.

This is the first time Edmundston will host these summer games, which were held for the first time in 2009 in Tracadie. The Games are sponsored by the Association francophone des ainés du Nouveau-Brunswick. Nearly 400 participants from the Maritimes and Eastern Quebec attend to participate in sports, cultural and recreational activities.

“We are proud to host these Games for the first time in Edmundston, having hosted this winter the 50+ Acadie-Québec Winter Games in collaboration with Degelis, Quebec,” said Edmundston Mayor Cyrille Simard. “This is a major event, appreciated by the participants, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the community as a whole.”

A volunteer committee is already getting started, to support the co-chairs, Mad. Louise Guerette and Luc Fournier. Both agree that an event of this magnitude gets organized and is successful thanks to the involvement of people from the community.

“Edmundston is well known for its hospitality and organizational capacity. We look forward to starting the work to deliver memorable Games,” they said via a press release.
