154 compete in final seniors tourney

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A field of 154 golfers participated in the seventh Upper St. John Valley Seniors men’s tournament of the summer, held at Presque Isle Country Club, Wednesday, Sept. 5.

End of the year award winners were determined, with Jerry York of Houlton, who averaged 72.3 strokes for his four best rounds, taking the President’s Trophy for the low gross average. Jeff Everett of Caribou claimed the Governor’s Trophy for the low net average of 69.

Gary Greene of Hartland, with a 74.7 average for his three best rounds, won the Bud Survant Trophy for the low gross average for those 75 years of age and older. Elwood Doody of Caribou, who is the namesake for the trophy for the low net average, was this year’s winner with a 69.7 average.

The top three gross and net scorers from each of the six divisions during Wednesday’s tournament are as follows:

Division A: first gross, Jerry York, Houlton, 68; first net, Paul Roy, Hartland, 66; second gross, Gary Greene, Hartland, 73; second net, Stuart Kelley, Va Jo Wa, 67; third gross, Rick Pelletier, Long Lake, 74; and third net, Mike Gagnon, Caribou, 67.

Division B: first gross, Steven Edwards, Va Jo Wa, 75; first net, Tom Davidson, Aroostook Valley, 68; second gross, Don Michaud, Long Lake, 76; second net, Everett Parker, Hartland, 68; third gross, Stephen Sweetser, Presque Isle, 77; and third net, Richard Winslow, Portage, 69.

Division C: first gross, Rob Kieffer, Caribou, 78; first net, George Watson, Hartland, 69; second gross, Charles Fournier, Edmundston, 82; second net, John McCrea, Aroostook Valley, 72; third gross, Mike Glew, Long Lake, 85; and third net, Tom Ryan, Va Jo Wa, 72.

Division D: first gross, Steve Chandler, Presque Isle, 81; first net, George Watson, Presque Isle, 69; second gross, Mike Beaulieu, Caribou, 86; second net, George Findlay, Mars Hill, 70; third gross, Louis Gallant, Edmundston, 87; and third net, Jeff Poirier, Portage, 72.

Division E: first gross, Dave Scullion, Portage, 87; first net, Alan O’Neal, Limestone, 67; second gross, Percy Thibeault, Long Lake, 87; second net, Joe Staples, Hartland, 70; third gross, Gerry Plourde, Long Lake, 91; and third net, Lloyd Soucie, Fort Kent, 70.

Division F: first gross, Keith Ireland, Caribou, 91; first net, Steve Poitras, Aroostook Valley, 67; second gross, Dale Lavway, Mars Hill, 94; second net, Roger Ouellette, Fort Kent, 97; third gross, Norman Martin, Fort Kent, 101; third net, none.
