Madawaska man charged with aggravated assault on teen
MADAWASKA, Maine — Madawaska police arrest local man for alleged assault on 16-year-old girl.
Local police charged 21-year-old Manuel Cyr on Wednesday, Aug. 15, with aggravated assault and violating conditions of release in connection with a previous arrest. Information on the previous case was not immediately available.
In the current case, officers fielded a call on Aug. 9 from a local business after a 16-year-old female entered the store and told employees that she had been assaulted, according to police.
The alleged victim told investigating Officer Garrett Albert that Cyr had struck her multiple times, and strangled her until she lost consciousness. When she was able to flee the residence, she said she ran to the business where employees helped her contact police.
Madawaska police were unable to locate Cyr that day and the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant. The victim was assessed by Madawaska paramedics and transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent.
At about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Officer Sam Dechaine of the Madawaska Police Department saw Cyr driving his car down Main Street. After performing a traffic stop, Dechaine took Cyr into custody without incident and transported him to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
