Eagle Lake center plans family health fair

EAGLE LAKE, Maine — Fish River Rural Health will hold its annual family health fair on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Health Center. This free event is geared towards preventive health care services and information to guide healthy lifestyles.

FRRH is partnering with patients to improve overall health outcomes.  Fairgoers may visit FRRH’s Million Hearts Booth, which will feature preventive strategies and coordinated actions to help patients reduce their risk of a heart attack or stroke within the next 10 years.  A ceremony celebrating the success of program participants and Million Hearts testimonies will occur at 11:45 a.m.

Resource tables and booths will feature the proper procedure for removing ticks, healthy eating, heart health, diabetes care, sun protection and more.  Adult fairgoers may receive free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.

Youngsters can receive a free fluoride varnish application, participate in a sugar bug scavenger hunt, jump around in the bouncy house, and take on the challenge of an obstacle course.  Free bicycle helmets are available for children 12 or younger, while supplies last. The Teddy Bear Clinic will offer “check-ups” for favorite stuffed animals’ hearts, eyes, teeth and mind.

Other fair attractions include an ambulance, fire truck and ranger truck tours.  Children can sign up for a chance to win a heart-healthy new scooter, helmet and protective elbow/knee gear, donated by local sponsors.

All ages are welcome. For more information visit www.frrh.org, or contact JoAnne O’Leary, RN-BSN, health educator, at 444-5973 or email at joleary@frrh.org.
