Huge turnout of golfers play for Special Olympics

A record number of teams participated and a record amount of money was raised for Aroostook Special Olympics during the 30th annual Charity Challenge Golf Tournament, held July 14 and 15.

Nine-hole tournaments were played both Saturday morning and afternoon at Limestone Country Club and on Sunday morning and afternoon at Long Lake Country Club in Madawaska.

The foursome of Roger Beaulieu, Scott Beaulieu, Guy Cyr and Mike Rioux picked up the win on Saturday morning as they finished at 5 under par with a 31. The net winners were Alan O’Neal, Dale Peers, Margo Peers and Jennifer Tweedie with a 27.5.

The Saturday afternoon winners were AJ Cloukey, Tony Roy, Kati Roy and Jon Gulliver, who came in with a 29. First net went to Brad Boyles, Erica Boyles, Blake Bailey and John Pelletier thanks to their score of 27.

On Sunday at Long Lake Country Club, many low scores were recorded but the team of Jacques Lizotte, Andre Lajoie, Rick Pelletier and Paul Brideau came out on top with a 27 to claim the title, First net in the morning went to Brad Boyles, Chad Graham and Blake Bailey. Their score was 25.

The Sunday afternoon group  winners were Mike Pelletier, Dave Plourde, Ken Gibbs and Dayton Canaan, who shot a 29. Net winners were Alan O’Neal, Margo Peers, Chad Peers and Lisa Stohlman. They had a winning score of 25.5.dollars was raised for Aroostook Special Olympics.

Tournament director Rene Cloukey more than $5,000 was raised, with all the funds going to Aroostook County Special Olympics.
