Fort Kent Lions plan 9th ball drop fundraiser

FORT KENT, Maine — You don’t need to be a fisherman to win money prizes during the Muskie Derby and Ploye Festival coming up in August, and you don’t need to be a golfer, either.

The Fort Kent Lions Club will host their 9th annual Golf Ball Drop, giving away $2,000 in prizes. The drop will follow the cooking of the world record Ploye next to the Lions Pavilion on Friday, Aug. 10.

The number on each ticket will match a golf ball with the same number. Organizers will hoist a mini potato barrel containing all numbered golf balls will be loaded into a mini potato barrel, hoisted up to a height of 35 to 40 feet above a mowed green with a cup and flag, then released through the bottom of the barrel and spread over the green.

Prizes are: Hole In one, $1,000, closest to the pin, $500, second closest to the pin $300, and farthest from the pin $200.

All proceeds from this project will benefit Lions’ community projects, such as  like Riverside Park, the Pavilion, RV Park, the bathrooms in the park, Jalbert Park baseball field, to mention a few, also grants to the Fort Kent Boy Scouts, the hospital, fire department, schools system, and annual college scholarships to high school seniors.

Tickets are $20 each, 3 for $50 or groups of 3 or more for $50, and are available from most Fort Kent Lions Club members.
