MADAWASKA, Maine — Police have recovered a truck reported stolen from Madawaska on June 8 and charged an Easton man with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Jessie White, 39, of Easton also is facing additional charges as the case remains under investigation, according to Madawaska Police Chief Ross Dubois.

Dan Cyr of Madawaska reported his 1999 GMC 1500 pickup truck, and tools stored inside it, missing the afternoon of June 8.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle in Easton the following afternoon, June 9, where it was parked at White’s residence, according to Dubois. The chief said White confessed to Deputy Vance Palmer that he had taken the truck in Madawaska.

White told Palmer that his own car had broken down in Madawaska and that while he was walking south on Route 1, he came upon Cyr’s truck with the keys in it, so he drove it home, according to Dubois.

The deputy summoned White on the single count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, but other charges are possible, the police chief said.

Madawaska officer Sam Dechaine continues to investigate. White is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 8.
