Jackson invites loggers, truckers and families to informational meeting
SOLDIER POND, Maine — National leaders of the International Association of Machinists along with state Sen. Troy Jackson will meet with loggers, truckers and their families on Friday in Soldier Pond.
“It is a meeting for loggers and truckers to discuss forming an association Co-Op that would be able to offer health insurance, pension plans, fuel and parts, and other things,” Jackson said. “This is the same group that organized the lobstermen in Maine. They have logger associations in the Midwest.”
The meeting is closed to the public but all interested truckers, loggers and their immediate families are welcome to attend, Jackson said.
He added that the International Association of Machinists is one of the largest workers organizations in the United States.
“Sometimes people are concerned about retaliation, but this is a chance for people to help secure their industry,” Jackson said.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Sly Brook Clubhouse.
