7 County athletes win baseball skills event

MARS HILL, Maine — Seven champions were crowned at the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run northern sectionals, held June 3 at Central Aroostook Junior-Senior HIgh School’s baseball field.

All-around champions in each age group, and their point totals, were as follows: 7-8 girls, Aiden Kinney of Mars Hill, 285 points; 9-10 girls, Abrianna McDonald of Mars Hill, 384 points; 11-12 girls, Kassidy Blackstone of Mars Hill, 709 points; 7-8 boys, Kooper Bell of Caribou, 457 points; 9-10 boys, Isaac Beaulieu of Madawaska, 718 points; 11-12 boys, Jonathan McDonald of Mars Hill, 793 points; and 13-14 boys, Samuel Dufresne of Madawaska, 979 points.

The 13-14 girls age division did not have any contestants.

Points are earned based on pitching accuracy, hitting for distance and accuracy, and running for speed around the bases.

Contestants making it into the northern sectionals had advanced by winning their local competitions held throughout Aroostook County.

The top performers in New England will have an opportunity to advance to the next round, held at Fenway Park in Boston in July.
