Baby moose wails for its mother in Madawaska

MADAWASKA, Maine — Mike Cyr of Snowmobile Northern Maine captured this video of a young moose calling for its mother on Gagnon Road in Madawaska on Wednesday, May 30. Baby moose, known as calves, are born in the spring and usually stay with their mothers for about one year.

Mother moose, or cows, are very protective of their babies, most of whom do not survive their first winter.

Cyr said that he chooses to believe this particular calf found its mom when it ran back into the woods.
