Annual Community-Wide Yard Sale a success over Memorial Day weekend
MADAWASKA, Maine — A record 60 registrants participated in the 4th Annual Community-Wide Yard Sale held over the Memorial Day weekend in Madawaska and surrounding towns.
Last year, 51 people participated in the community event, making it the largest yard sale since the chamber started the event. This year, 60 individuals and groups opened up their yards and garages to shoppers Saturday and Sunday.
Madeline Levesque visited Lora Cyr at her home Sunday afternoon after the Memorial Day parade in Madawaska to take a look at the inventory. Levesque hosted her own yard sale over the weekend, where she nearly rid her yard of everything she had for sale.
“I made a dollar here and a dollar there,” Levesque said Sunday afternoon.
Rachelle and Bob DeFarges opened their home to the event where they said over 100 people had been through to browse and buy.
“We even had a bidding war on an antique ice box,” Rachelle DeFarges said.
Linda Cyr also was pleased with the turnout at her garage sale.
“We’ve had over 200 people in the last two days,” Cyr said. “So, it was well worth the $10 investment.”
Cyr had sold most of the items in the sale, she said, but still had a few furniture items, dishes, and linens.
“Whatever is left at the end of the sale, I will probably donate all to the church,” Cyr said.
