Workshop targets child-care providers

MADAWASKA, Maine — New Ventures Maine (www.newventuresmaine.org) will offer a free workshop on beginning a child-care business on Thursday, May 24, in the Safety Complex Training Room, 428 Main Street, Madawaska.

Karin Petrin, microenterprise coordinator for New Ventures Maine in Aroostook County, will instruct the session, which will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Local child care services are currently in high demand throughout Aroostook County,” said Petrin. “This is a great opportunity to meet with industry experts and people who are making a living as a home child care provider and receive critical insight into the process of becoming licensed.”

The class will cover pros and cons of owning a business, start-up steps, elements of a business plan and available resources. Participants may access information about Maine licensing, fire regulations and the state food reimbursement program.

For more information or to register, contact Petrin at 768-9468 or karin.petrin@maine.edu, or go online to bit.ly/classesnvme. Pre-registration is required.
