Dee McQuarrie (1961—2018)

BANGOR, Maine — Dee McQuarrie, 56, passed away on February 21, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine. She was born in Madawaska, Maine, on June 19, 1961, the daughter of Andrew N. “Skip” and Rose M. (Paradis) McQuarrie.

Dee graduated from Madawaska High School in 1979, and attended several years of nursing school and veterinary college. She later studied web design at Northern Maine Community College.

Dee’s love of family and friends was unboundless, as was her sense of adventure.  Sometimes called the gypsy daughter she lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Hollywood, Florida, Caribou, Maine, Presque Isle, Maine, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brewer, Maine, and had recently settled in Bangor, Maine, in 2017. Dee maintained friendships in all the places she lived no matter how far.

Growing up in Northern Maine, Dee was no stranger to a canoe, snowmobile or any other outdoor related activities. Each summer she looked forward to the family camping trip where she explored the outdoors. Her zest for excitement later transferred to an interest in motorcycles. Dee also loved pets and had recently adopted a young male cat who she named Loki. She was a collector of blue glass, angels and loved to paint. She was also a great fan of Facebook, where she stayed in touch with family and her many friends. This is where she posted her old and new family photos, her artwork and amateur photography.  Dee had recently started a new job as a service consultant at Wayfair Company in Bangor, that she was very excited about.  She had a few favorite sayings:  “Not all who wander are lost.” ~J.R.R. Tolkien and  “Life’s journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting: ‘Holy shit what a ride!'” ~Hunter S. Thompson

Dee is survived by her mother and father, Rose (Paradis) and Andrew McQuarrie; her brother, Andrew “Andy” McQuarrie and his wife, Emily, and their children, Rocco, Freyja and Iona; her nephew, Owen McQuarrie; her nephew and godson, Neal McQuarrie; her sister, Michelle McQuarrie Cross and her husband, Bill, and son, Spencer; her aunt and uncle and godparents, Judith (McQuarrie) and Richard Southard; her cousins and best friends, Michael and Mark Southard; and her young cat, Loki.  She also leaves behind many other aunts, uncles and cousins who will truly miss her.

A celebration of her life will be held at Saint Luce Church at 448 US Route 1 in Frenchville, Maine, on Saturday, March 24. Visitation hours will be at the church from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. with a funeral ceremony at 10 a.m. Donations in her memory may be sent to St. John Valley Associates, 291 Newberry Drive, Madawaska, ME 04756.
