Fans to raise money for Wisdom student’s fight against cancer
ST. AGATHA, Maine — Friends and fellow students of Patrick Parham are hoping to raise funds in support of the Wisdom High School freshman’s fight against cancer, when the school hosts the Madawaska Owls on Jan. 10 for two regular season basketball games.
Doctors diagnosed Parham, 15, with lymphoma in early December. His grandmother, MaryEllen Marruci, is raising the teen, and the family lives on a severely limited income.
Parham was a member of the middle school basketball team at Wisdom, and has represented Wisdom in outdoor track, cross-country, and Nordic skiing during his time at the school.
He also is a member of the S.L.A.M. arts organization, school drama program, and the Wisdom Pioneer Band, according to Wisdom Principal Ralph Fantasia.
“The Wisdom Boosters Club will be donating their proceeds from the concession stand to Patrick,” Fantasia said. “The Athletic Club also will be donating their gate receipts from games, as well as the proceeds from the 50/50 raffle.”
The Wisdom Pioneers girls will host the Madawaska Owls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game is set to start at 7 p.m.
Last month, members and coaches of the Fort Kent Community High School ski team, who Parham trains and skis with, helped organize movie night and ski event fundraisers to help Parham.
