Animals perish in Littleton fire

LITTLETON, Maine — There were no injuries but several pets died after a house fire in LIttleton on Wednesday.

Littleton Fire Chief Dwight Cowperthwaite said Thursday evening that the fire was located at the home of Richard Kneeland and Karen Heath on the Foster Road.

The two were not at home at the time.

Firefighters spent more than three hours trying to extinguish the blaze at the single story structure.

“It was fully involved and falling in when we got there,” said the chief. “We could only attack it from the outside.”

There were no injuries, but “a few dogs and a cat” perished in the fire, according to Cowperthwaite.

The home was valued at $20,000 and was not insured.

The chief said he was not sure what caused the fire.

The department received mutual aid from Monticello.
