CROSS LAKE, Maine — Two Valley women drivers escaped injury and a moose walked away after two cars hit the animal in Cross Lake on Friday.

Lucy Morin, 45, of Fort Kent, was traveling northbound on Route 161 in her 2015 Kia when a moose entered the roadway at about 4:45 p.m. Friday and struck the vehicle, according to a press release issued by Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

After the collision with the Kia, the moose stood back up in the roadway and was hit again by a 2012 Subaru driven by Esther Cyr, 61, of Van Buren. Cyr also had been traveling northbound on Route 161, directly behind Morin’s vehicle.

“Luckily, no one was injured including the moose which walked away from the crash scene,” Crandall said in the release.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

Deputy Sheriff Corey Saucier investigated the accident and Maine Forest Ranger Richard Martin assisted at the scene.
