Thomas Clavette (1926—2017)

FRENCHVILLE, Maine — Thomas Clavette, 91, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 1, 2017, at a Fort Kent hospital. He was born on August 14, 1926, in Madawaska, a son of the late Denis and Julie (Lavertu) Clavette.

Tom enlisted with the US Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. He owned former Tom’s Body Shop and, later, was a body shop technician and manager for former Acadia Motors. He was a life member of the American Legion, Post #145, Frenchville, and a former volunteer of the Frenchville Volunteer Fire Department. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by six children, Odette Pelletier and her husband, Yvon, of Quebec City, QC, Canada, Louise Marquis of Rossville, GA, Roger Clavette and his wife, Susan, of Roxboro, QC, Canada, Denise Jenkins of Rossville, GA, Yvette Cote of Bristol, CT, and Daniel Clavette and his wife, Lynn, of Frenchville; one sister, Marie Aldea Ouellette of Richland, WA; twelve grandchildren, Marc, Eric, Cassandra, Aaron, Lyane, Jason, Nicole, Karen, Lisa, Ryan, Scott, and Julie; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Therese (Gaudreau) Clavette in 1998, and thirteen siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska, followed by military honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday morning from 9 – 9:45 a.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
