Red Cross calls for ‘Hero’ nominations

CARIBOU, Maine — The American Red Cross of Maine, with its local office in Caribou, is now accepting nominations for the annual Real Heroes Awards.

The awards recognize individuals and groups who have made a difference in the lives of their neighbors. They may be teachers, military personnel, first responders or everyday citizens who demonstrate heroism, courage, kindness, and unselfish character in service to others.

Local awards will be presented during the annual Real Heroes Breakfast on May 18 in Presque Isle.

Submit nominations by Dec. 15 online at

Nominees must either be a resident of Maine or employed in Maine and must have performed their heroic act in 2017.
