Thanksgiving Turkey Trot draws runners to icy course in Fort Kent

FORT KENT, Maine — Nearly 30 runners gathered Thanksgiving moring at Fort Kent Community High School to take part in the annual Turkey Trot 5K race.

This year’s event, organized by the school’s National Honor Society chapter, raised money for purchasing holiday gifts for local families.

Although much of the road and sidewalk route was icy, temperatures were relatively mild and the morning sun was out to greet the runners.

Niko Naranja was the overall winner and first in the 13-19-year-old age group.

Fletcher Marquis took the top spot in the under 12 group. Matt Toussaint was tops in the 20-29 age category and Claire Pelletier took first place in the 30-29 group.

Mark Carbonneau and Don Audibert were tops in the 50-59 and 60-49 age categories, respectively.

The winner in each group was awarded a fruit pie.
