Fort Kent Rotary Club donates holiday turkeys, seeks new members

FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Rotary Club donated 67 turkeys to the Fort Kent Ecumenical Food Pantry last week.

Rotary Club members donated personally toward the purchase of the turkeys, and the club matched those funds.

The organization also provided graduating high-school seniors in the community with 21 scholarships last spring. In October, members supplied dictionaries to area third-grade students.

The Rotarians hold several fundraisers throughout the year, most recently a Hunters Breakfast in late October.

The group, which currently has 22 members, is now recruiting.

“This is an opportunity for women and men to give back to the community,” said club President Caryn Cleveland-Short.

The group meets at 6 p.m. the first three Thursdays of each month at the Swamp Buck restaurant.
