Ernest J. Gendreau (1927—2017)

MADAWASKA, Maine — Ernest J. Gendreau, 90, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born on February 17, 1927, in St. David, son of the late Joseph and Edith (Clavet) Gendreau.

Ernest owned and operated his family farm for 38 years and continued working for his son until his retirement. He was a 4th Degree member and past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Council # 2638 in Madawaska, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 147.

Ernest is survived by his four children, Fern Gendreau and his companion, Jane Cyr, of Grand Isle, Linda M. Cyr of Madawaska, John Gendreau and his wife, Fran, of St. David and Allen Gendreau and his wife, Debbie, of Auburn; two sisters, Marie Mae Ouellette of Enfield, CT, and Claudette Mavor and her husband, George, of Madawaska; two brothers, Clifford Gendreau and his wife, Louise, of Madawaska and Roger Gendreau of St. Agatha; five grandchildren, Brenda, Brian, Michelle, Andrew and Adam; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his wife, Lucielle; one grandson, Dale; one son-in-law, Norman Cyr; and nine siblings.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madawaska. Relatives and friends may offer their condolences on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home. Spring internment will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
