FORT KENT, Maine — The Ashland Hornets visited Fort Kent on Friday and out-hustled the Warriors for much of the game, earning a 2-1 win.

Key defensive stops and consistent offensive pressure from Ashland had Fort Kent players on their heels.

Goals from Ashland’s Willow Hall and Fort Kent’s Desirae Hafford had the teams tied at the half.

Amber Chasse’s perfectly lofted chip shot over Fort Kent keeper Lyndsay Ouellette gave Ashland the go ahead goal in the second half.

From then on, Fort Kent pressed the Ashland defense hard, forcing Megan Cote to make several saves.

“We need these kind of competitive games heading into the playoffs,” Ashland Head Coach Peter Belskis said after the game.

Fort Kent seniors playing in their final regular season home game ended up on the short end of the 2-1 loss. But the team is still in 5th place among Class C North teams with a 7-6 record and headed to the playoffs.

Ashland improved to 12-1 with the win and sits in 2nd place in the Class C North standings, also playoff bound.
