Warriors hold on for win against Owls in girls soccer action

MADAWASKA, Maine — Fort Kent came out on top with a 3-2 victory against St. John Valley rival Madawaska in girls’ soccer action Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Warrior’s Gabby Martin scored the game winner at the 6:13 mark of the second half.  Fort Kent played to a 2-0 lead at halftime, thanks to two goals off the boot of Desiree Hafford. Cassidy Lovely assisted on two of the goals for Fort Kent.  

The Owls came back strong though, tieing the score in the second half behind goals from Jenna Dugal and Hannah Nadeau, on assists from Brianne Thibeault. In the end, the Owls could not pull off the home field win.

“This was a good game by two evenly matched Valley girls teams,” Madawaska coach Tom Gerard said following the game. “Our next game is at Wisdom on Friday. It’s a big game for us, as we are ranked 5th and they are 2nd” in the Class D North standings.

Lyndsay Ouellette of Fort Kent made 5 saves on 10 shots while Cassidy Beaulieu of Madawaska made 6 saves on 9 shots.  

Madawaska is now 4-2.

Fort Kent is 3-2, with a 3rd place ranking in Class C North.
