Visiting Van Buren Crusaders split away soccer games at Southern Aroostook

DYER BROOK, Maine — Matthew Burgess netted three goals to lead the visiting Van Buren Crusaders to a 4-1 win against the Southern Aroostook Warriors on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Deacon Thivierge tallied a goal and two assists for the 3-4 Crusaders, who were ranked 7th in the Class D North rankings following the victory. Colby Lapointe saved three of five shots.

Gavin Vining had the lone goal for Southern Aroostook (0-3). Parker Skinner and Xavier Morales combined for nine saves on 18 shots.

On the girls’ side, Jordyn Legassey led the Warriors with two goals as they defeated the Crusaders, 6-0.

Emma Nadeau, Kylie Vining, Makaelyn Porter and Kassidy Mathers each netted a goal and an assist for Southern Aroostook, which improved to 2-1 in the Class D North girls standings after the shutout.

Paige Vose, Maddie Cummings, and Skyla Nelson all notched assists in the Warrior win. Teammate Sydney Brewer saved the only shot she faced.

Bailey Laplante and Tiffany Morrow combined for 19 saves on the 25 shots Southern Aroostook took on Van Buren.

The Van Buren girls remained winless on the season, dropping to 0-5-2 following the loss.
