Girl Scouts invite Valley girls to join

FORT KENT, Maine — Girl Scout troops in Eagle Lake, Fort Kent, Frenchville and Madawaska invite St. John Valley girls in kindergarten through 12th grade to take part in an informational evening and recruitment night on Friday, Sept. 15.

“The goal of Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place,” said Troop leader Amy Levesque. “Each troop follows guidelines to engage the girls in various activities to help the girls build these characteristics and to become active leaders in their communities.”

The Girl Scout organization encourages females to unleash their inner G.I.R.L, an acronym for go-getter, innovator, risk-taker and leader. Scout leaders plan to offer more information about the program and activities at the meeting.

There is a $40 annual membership fee, but Girl Scouts of Maine offers financial assistance to those in need.

The informational meeting is free of charge and will take place 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at Fort Kent Elementary School.
