Run in memory of beloved baby continues to bring in supporters

FORT KENT, Maine — Seven years after it’s inception, the run held in memory of Dylan Levesque demonstrated that the infant who passed away unexpectedly in March of 2011 is far from forgotten by his community.

One hundred and twelve athletes participated Saturday, Aug. 5, in the Summer 5K Fun Run hosted by the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

“We had a wide range of people join, from some very talented competitive racers to some walkers just out enjoying the day and helping a good cause,” said Lucas Levesque, Dylan’s father.

Levesque is the assistant director of athletics and head women’s soccer coach at the University of Maine Fort Kent. Lucas and Amy Levesque also have two daughters, Abby, 9, and Sophia, 5.

Money raised from the event funds the Dylan R. Levesque Memorial Scholarship at the university which “goes to a student who has overcome tragedy or adversity,” Lucas Levesque said. This year’s race brought in $2,200 in scholarship money in the baby’s memory.

“We host the event every year with the goal of increasing the award we give and to have multiple recipients each year,” he said. “It benefits both students and UMFK and we’re happy to have Dylan’s name associated with such a good cause.”

The following were the winners of the Dylan Levesque Memorial Run:
