Red cross to hold local blood drives

CARIBOU, Maine — The American Red Cross will hold four blood drives in northern Aroostook County to help overcome a chronic summer blood shortage.

In August, regular donors may delay giving due to final summer vacations and back-to-school activities, but donations are still urgently needed.

Blood drives include the following:

Caribou: Monday, Aug. 21, 12-6 p.m. at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.

Presque Isle: Tuesday, Aug. 22, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at The Aroostook Medical Center’s A.R. Gould Division, 140 Academy St.

Van Buren: Tuesday, Aug. 22, 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 284 Main St.

Mars Hill: Thursday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mars Hill Rec Center, 10 ACI St.

To make an appointment, download the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1 (800) RED CROSS (1 [800] 733-2767). To help reduce wait times, donors may make appointments and complete the RapidPass online health history questionnaire at redcrossblood.org/RapidPass.
