Lauretta Rose Blier Fournier (1933—2017)

VAN BUREN, Maine — Lauretta Rose Blier Fournier, 84, passed away August 6, 2017 at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born in Keegan on July 9, 1933, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Ouellette) Blier.

She married Donald J. Fournier on August 12, 1957. They moved to Bethpage, NY, in 1961 where they resided for fifty years until they returned to the county in 2011. While in New York, she ran a preschool in her home for twenty-four years, preparing children for successful futures. All those children continued to hold a place in her heart. She was also a teacher’s aide at BOCES and ACDS for a total of eighteen years and volunteered at Our Lady of Mercy Church where she worked with special needs and Downs Syndrome children for many years. She retired in 2009. She had a lasting impact on all of the children that she has taken care of over the years and all the people that have taken care of her in her last years and she will be missed by many.

She is survived by five children, Denise Fournier of Salt Lake City, UT, Donald G. Fournier and his wife Amy of Waterville, Claire Gargiulo of Bethpage, NY, Dr. Jeanne Fournier-Fike and her husband Scott of Royalton, NY, and Dr. Renee Fournier of Presque-Isle; five grandchildren, Sarah, Anthony, Megan, Catherine, and Benjamin; two sisters, Geralda Boutot of Naugatuck, CT, Cecile Bouchard and her husband Chanel of Van Buren; two brothers, Roland Blier and his wife Pris of Bridgeport, CT, Gerald Blier and his wife Edwina of Van Buren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald J. Fournier; and thirteen siblings.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the Parish cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home.
