Gagnon, Cyr tapped to lead Owl soccer squads

MADAWASKA, Maine — Madawaska School committee members voted Monday to hire Ben Gagnon as the new boys head soccer coach, according to Superintendent Gisele Dionne.

Ganon will step in following the departure of Shawn Querze, who was hired last fall.

Querze chose to step down due to personal reasons, he said in an email to the St. John Valley Times.

“I loved coaching the kids and wish them nothing but success,” he said.

Dionne confirmed Monday that Querze was not asked to resign.

In other school business, committee members approved the hiring of Doug Cyr of Madawaska as the boys middle school soccer coach for the 2017-18 school year.

High school soccer practice began Monday and middle school teams are slated to start practice July 31. Soccer season in Madawaska starts with a middle school game on Aug. 17 against Fort Kent and two high school games against Eason, Aug. 18, all of which are at home.
