The event included a bouncy house, face painting, bingo, crafts, book giveaways, games and prizes.

“The students will leave with at least one book and I would say everyone will leave with at least two prizes,” United Way of Aroostook Executive Director Sherry Locke said on Wednesday.

The event was an extension of the UWA and Katahdin Trust Summer Slide Backpack Program which provides all Aroostook County first-graders with a backpack and three books for summer reading. Volunteers from the Fort Kent Recreation Department helped to facilitate the celebration day.
