Honoring our Meals on Wheels drivers

The Town of Frenchville organized a social at the Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha to celebrate the Meals on Wheels drivers that serve, or have served, the town. A special recognition was given to Marie Louise Raymond, who was one of the original founders, by Dottie Sines, the Aroostook County Program Director.

Meals on Wheels is a federal program administered by the Aroostook Agency on Aging in Aroostook County. Under this program, a prepared meal is delivered to the elderly, especially those that are homebound, Monday thru Friday of each week.  The delivery driver not only brings a meal, but also provides a safety check, as well as brings a friendly face the homebound might only see that day.

In 1983, a Rita Wylie had organized the Meals on Wheels in Frenchville. As she was moving to Madawaska, Marie Louise Raymond, Stella Ouellette, and Lucille Daigle volunteered to take over the Program. Over the years, 15 other volunteer drivers have joined their group, and over the last 34 years they have delivered over 8,500 meals in Frenchville.
