Crusaders pick up wins against Shires in tennis action

HOULTON, Maine — The Van Buren Crusaders came away with six victories, Tuesday, May 17, in tennis action against the hosting Shires of Houlton.

On the boys’ side, Brandon Sytulek of Van Buren defeated Owen Gallop in nearly straight sets, 8-1. The Crusaders’ Travis Lebel got the win against Nolan Porter, 8-5, and teammate Brenton Soucy defeated Devin Ivey, 8-2.

The Crusaders picked up a fourth victory when the duo of Skyler Paradis and Manny Deschaine beat Tim Youngfellow and Nate DeLucca, 8-5, in doubles action.

The lone Shires win on the boys’ side came when the doubles team of Jaron Gentle and Isaac Vega defeated Luc Perrault and Dominic Belanger, 8-2.

Tiffany Morrow’s 8-4 win over Maddie Grant was the Crusader’s lone win in girls’ singles action. Houlton’s Rebecca Mooers defeated Erica Ouellette, 8-1, and teammate Sydney Lorom earned a hard fought win against Lindsey Gendreau, 9-7.

In girls’ doubles action, Van Buren’s duo of Emilia Nicknair and Amanda Nicknair held off Emily Miller and Carolyn Hannigan, 8-5.

The Shire team of Nadja Messerschmidt and Tessa McCormick beat Emma LaJoie and Kaila Roy, 8-2.
