Chamber board welcomes LaJoie

MADAWASKA, Maine — The St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce announced that Liza Lajoie was recently voted in as a member of its board of directors.

LaJoie is the owner of Lajoie Funeral Home with locations in Madawaska, Van Buren and Ashland.

Growing up in rural Aroostook county, Lajoie knew she had a calling for funeral service at a young age. After graduating from Van Buren District Secondary School, she decided to leave everything she had ever known behind to achieve her lifelong dream of being a funeral director and owning her own funeral home.

While working at a funeral home in Wolcott, Conn., she earned her degree from Briarwood College in mortuary science. After graduation, her urge to relocate to northern Maine grew stronger. She discovered the former Daigle Funeral Home of Madawaska was searching for a manager.

With family being of utmost importance to her, it only made sense to move closer to her family in Cyr Plantation. After working for the Daigle family for three years, she finally acquired the business on Feb. 5, 2010. She aims to share fresh ideas, new perspectives and technical knowledge in the business.

In her spare time, LaJoie enjoys spending time with her family, working on the Lajoie family potato farm, camping, riding her four-wheeler, and spending time at the family camp on Long Lake.
