‘Valley Girls’ back in the News

We recently introduced a comic strip, Valley Girls in the March 1 print edition. Actually it is being re-introduced to Fiddlehead Focus readers and is probably new to St. John Valley Times readers.

The strip centers around its creator Bhava Albert and her family’s daily life in the St.John Valley. Some of Albert’s comics are based on true events, although most are exaggerated.

“One of my favorite things is making others laugh, which got me into drawing comics. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and I always wanted to be an artist growing up. I have two very different art styles – my normal, serious style, where I mainly paint and draw in graphite, and my much sillier, fun style which I use to draw my comics,” she said.

Albert attended high school in Fort Kent and went on to college at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She also drew comics for the campus paper and won several awards while attending.

In addition to drawing, Albert enjoys reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, writing funny stories, and playing video games with her twin sister.
