ST. JOHN VALLEY — Low pressure will track from the Gulf of Maine into New Brunswick then move northeast of the region later Wednesday. Steady snowfall will diminish to snow showers with a cold front and some upper-troughs will cross the area Wednesday evening and Thursday morning bringing a chance for snow squalls across the Valley as they move through. Much colder Arctic air builds in for the weekend with partly cloudy skies as high pressure takes control of the region’s weather.

Wednesday, January 4

High: low 30s
Low: mid-10s

Overcast to mostly cloudy with morning snow tapering to snow showers in the afternoon with a near 100 percent chance for precipitation. A 40 percent chance for snow showers and possibly some snow squalls in the evening and overnight. East/northeast winds 5-10 mph become south/southwesterly around 10 mph.

Thursday, January 5

High: mid-10s
Low: -5 to -7

Mostly cloudy early then becoming partly sunny with a 30 percent chance for snow showers and possibly some snow squalls. Overnight, partly clear and cold with a 10 percent chance for precipitation. Southwest winds around 15 mph diminish to 5-10 mph overnight.

Friday, January 6

High: near 10
Low: -10 to -12

Partly sunny early then becoming partly cloudy. Southwest winds become westerly around 5 mph.

Saturday, January 7

High: near 6
Low: -10 to -15

Partly cloudy and cold with light west wind becoming northwesterly.

Sunday, January 8

High: near 7
Low: -8 to -10

Partly cloudy and cold with increasing clouds in the evening and a slight chance for snow in the evening. Light north to northwest winds.
