Spokesperson for Emera Maine, Allison Gray, said the utility company dispatched crews to determine what is impacting a transmission line in Aroostook County.

The disruption affected thousands of customers from many towns including Fort Kent, Frenchville, Madawaska, Caribou, Connor, Cyr Plantation, New Sweden, Perham, Stockholm, Westmanland, Woodland, and several townships.

Gray said, “At this time all customers have been restored. Crews are still investigating the cause. As we evaluated the system to ensure we could bring customers back online safely, customers in Fort Kent and Madawaska were among the first restored.”

Gray added that the crews may never know the cause. “If a tree fell and grounded a line temporarily, but then fell off the line, crews wouldn’t necessarily be able to know when the tree fell and if it made contact when they arrive on the scene,” she said.
