MSAD 33 hires Ralph Fantasia as Wisdom principal

FRENCHVILLE / ST. AGATHA, Maine – On July 5, the Maine School Administrative District 33 Board of Directors approved the hiring of Ralph Fantasia, Jr. as the new principal and athletic director at Wisdom Middle High School in St. Agatha.

“Ralph has experience working with both middle and high school students and understands well the necessity to fill multiple roles when working in a small school,” MSAD 33 Superintendent Fern Desjardins wrote in a July 8 email.

For the past two years, Fantasia was assistant principal and athletic administrator, in RSU No.39 at Limestone Community School. During that time he was also a social studies teacher.

Tammy LeBlanc left her position as principal at Wisdom at the end the school year.

The district hired Fantasia at a salary of $74,000, according to Desjardins, and he has already begun his duties at Wisdom.

In other school business, board members approved slight adjustments to school lunches. They adjusted prices by 10 cents, with lunches at Dr. Levesque Elementary School going to $2.30 and at Wisdom Middle/High School to $2.50. Breakfast prices and adult meal prices did not change, according to Desjardins.

The School Board also voted to move to self-contained classes in Grades 7 and 8, and to have separate lunch periods from the high school, Desjardins said. This necessitated the addition of a Grade 7 teaching position.

High school teachers will no longer teach middle school students, except for music, art, and physical education. French teachers will continue teaching students in grades 7-12.

The board re-elected Jean Martin as chairperson of the school board and Kristen Babin as vice-chairperson.
